The Arizona Cardinals have only made one SB appearance in 2009. That year, they lost 23-27 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it was the closest they came to winning. While the Cardinals don’t have as impressive a record as many other NFL teams, they’ve won some championships.

The Atlanta Falcons is one of the teams that never won a Super Bowl and have only ever been to the SB twice, in 1999 and 2017. During the 2017 SB, the team had its most remarkable comeback to the SB but ultimately fell to the New England Patriots without reaching the finals. Still, it’s won two NFC championships and two NFC West Championships in its team history.

Established in 1959, the Buffalo Bills has been to the SB four times, though all four were in the 1990s. For all four Super Bowls, they went up against the other team in the finals but remain one of the NFL teams that have not won a Super Bowl. Their closest win was in 1991, when they lost 19-20 against the New York Giants. However, they have a long history of winning AFL and AFC East Championships.

The Carolina Panthers is a newer team, with their franchise granted in 1993. Both years the Carolina Panthers were in the SB, they made it to the finals. However, in 2004, they lost 29-32 to the New England Patriots. In 2016, they lost 10-24 to the Denver Broncos, which ended their SB history to date, and they remain one of the NFL teams without a championship title. Still, they’ve won the NFC South five times.

The Cincinnati Bengals is another team with a long history, established in 1967. It’s been to the SB three times and reached the finals for all three. All of their games are pretty close, with 1982 ending 21-26 against the San Francisco 49ers and 1989 ending 16-20 against them, too. However, after 33 years, they attended the SB again in 2022 but lost 20-23 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Cleveland Brown is an old team, but while they’ve participated in 29 playoffs, they’ve never made it to the SB and are one of the teams without Super Bowl wins. However, that doesn’t mean the team isn’t renowned. The team has won 32 Championships, ranging from NFL and AAFC to AFC Championships. Still, all of these wins happened between 1946 and 1989.

Before this year, the Detroit Lions was the only NFL team never to make an SB appearance, as the other three NFL teams without a Super Bowl appearance are all part of the AFC. However, rising from the depths, this team knocked out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23 and is now on their way to the SB. Since all of the team’s championship wins are during the 1900s, an SB win would be an even more extraordinary achievement for this professional team in Michigan.

In a rather heartbreaking turn or events, in 2024 the Lions made it to the Super Bowl for the first ever time just to lose to the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. Another young team, the Houston Texans, was established in 1999. They’ve never been to the SB and are one of the NFL teams without Super Bowl titles. However, they’ve won the AFC South six times, with two consecutive wins three times. Further, in 2001, they started to build an expansion team with Dom Capers as coach. In 2002, they had a 19-10 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, the first time an expansion team had won their opening game since the Minnesota-Chicago match in 1961.

The Jacksonville Jaguars is one of the AFC teams established in 1993. It had its first season in 1995 and won the AFC Central consecutively in 1998 and 1999. While it’s one of the NFL teams without Super Bowl wins, as it’s never made it to the SB, it has recently won the AFC South in 2017 and 2022. Further, its 14-2 inaugural season record is one of the best for expansion teams.

he Los Angeles Chargers started its franchise in 1959 and moved to San Diego in 1960. It reached the 1995 SB but got knocked out before the finals. While it’s one of the teams to never win a Super Bowl, it has won the AFC West 10 times over the years, with one win each for the AFL and AFC Championships.
