Northville Downs Proposes New Casino and Location in Plymouth Township
It seems likely that Northville Downs may move to a new location and seek to expand its Michigan operations with a new retail casino. Earlier in January, track representatives proposed the construction of a new track and facilities in northwest Plymouth Township.
Northville Downs’ New Proposed Location
What was proposed? A 54,000-square-foot gambling establishment next to the track, subject to legislative operation permission. The new facility would be close to the Northville Downs location which is now at 301 S. Center St. in Northville.
2018 saw the sale of Northville Downs’ establishment to Hunter Pasteur Homes. The land’s new owners intend to eventually convert it into 450 new homes, parks, and commercial space.
A 128-acre parcel at the intersection of Ridge and Five Mile roads is being considered by Northville Downs as a potential new location for their operations.
The initial phase of the project would include:
- A half-mile oval harness racetrack;
- 4,900 square feet of a grandstand with two stories;
- A racing facility, 23,000 square feet;
- A stable for horses, 35,000 square feet;
- a building for maintenance, 3,200 square feet;
After the first phase is finished, the next step will be the construction of a 54,000-square-foot gaming facility. The Michigan Gaming Control Board’s license approval would also be necessary for that.
